MISO, PHO develop COVID-19 Patient Information and Contact Tracing System

Management Information Systems Office
May 22, 2020

Just like most areas in the Philippines, Laguna was not spared from the distressing effect of the COVID-19, now a pandemic, caused by the novel coronavirus 2019.

Governor Ramil L. Hernandez placed the entire province under lockdown on March 28, 2020 until further notice, as part of the government’s precautionary measures against the spread of the virus.

In order to monitor the severity and the rate of contraction of the virus, the Management Information Systems Office (MISO) developed a COVID-19 Patient Information and Contact Tracing System (PICTS) which serves as a surveillance system that collects essential information of Covid-19 cases in the province of Laguna.

The system features a database which organizes pertinent information and put them in order according to Suspect, Probable, Positive, Recovered and Deceased cases. The Provincial Health Office is the main user and owner of the system.

The Provincial Epidemiology Surveillance Unit (PESU), cities and municipalities Epidemiology Surveillance Unit (CESU, MESU) of Laguna will spearhead the data encoding to the system.

The information will be updated in a regular basis to help the authorities and health sector analyse the COVID-19 curve.

On the other hand, the Provincial Health Office (PHO), headed by Dr. Rene P. Bagamasmad will extend their help to the province together with the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) and Serbisyong Tama Action Center (STAC) with regard to data gathering and providing patient care.

As of May 13, the province has recorded 343 active case; 180 recovered, 30 mortality, 1124 suspected, and 67 probable cases.

The MISO will continue to strive to do its best in supporting the fight together with the PHO, PDRRMO and the STAC in diligent coordination with the cities and municipalities of the province.

The Epidemiology Surveillance Unit of Laguna is gathering accurate information regarding COVID-19 cases, and the MISO aims to maximize its full potential in providing data through the online platform in response to the pandemic.

Creation of the PICTS was made possible with the full support of Gov. Hernandez, as well as the guidance and support of Provincial Administrator Atty. Dulce H. Rebanal in the provincial government’s effort to fight the pandemic.

The said system started its trial run on the second week of April 2020.
