SANTA CRUZ, Laguna – The Provincial Government of Laguna (PGL) entered into a partnership with the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing at the Laguna Cultural Center, this municipality.

The agreement aims to implement the e-governance project called  “Balinkbayan: Overseas Filipinos’ One-Stop Online Portal for Diaspora Engagement” that will allow both parties to help Lagunenses who are either living or working overseas, creating a link to the families they left behind and their community.

Under the helm of Undersecretary Astravel Pimentel-Naik as Executive Director, CFO will endeavor to provide mechanism to effectively mainstream migration and development (M&D) at the local level through the localization of the project, where localization means the establishment of the BaLinkBayan webpage featuring M&D initiatives specific to the province.

Since Laguna is home to a significant number of overseas Filipinos, PGL will call for a streamlined system of engagement for overseas Filipinos especially in the areas of diaspora investment, entrepreneurship and philanthropy, medical missions, volunteer work, and education.

Upon signing the MOA, Governor Ramil L. Hernandez who represented PGL, took up the challenge of bringing government services closer to OFWs and their families, with such services being offered in a web portal that can be easily accessed at the touch of a button wherever they are in the world.

Said online portal will serve as a virtual Migrant Resource Center and will be maintained by the Provincial Public Employment Service Office (PPESO) headed by PESO Manager Ms. Mary Jane B. Corcuera.

Co-signing the agreement was Director Ms. Marita del Rosario-Apattad, Chief of CFO Project Management Division (PMD).

A computer set dedicated to the BaLinkBayan project was turned-over to the provincial government after the MOA signing.
