Laguna Chest Center lends a helping hand amid pandemic

Laguna Provincial Chest Center
July 30, 2020

The Laguna Provincial Chest Center (LPCC) remains true to its commitment in lending a helping hand, and show solidarity and care especially during the COVID-19 health crisis.

One Person Deprived of Liberty (PDL) who is currently having a Multi-Drug Resistant-TB (a more severe tuberculosis case that needs further treatment) from Tagaytay Bureau of Jail Management of the Philippines (BJMP) was supposed to be referred to the Calamba BJMP.

However, a miscommunication happened at the height of the enforcement of the Enhanced Community Quarantine in March 2020, where the patient was sent to the Laguna Provincial Jail instead.

Despite the communication fiasco, LPCC had no second thoughts on accepting the patient. Ms. Maricel O. Rebenque, NTP Coordinator/ITIS Validator of LPCC, received the patient and continued his treatment under LPCC’s care.

In coordination with the Tagaytay Jail, medicine and food packs for the patient were provided by the Department of Health (DOH) and Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) for 18 months until the patient recovers.

Meanwhile, LPCC continues its program in conducting TB screening and HIV/AIDS awareness at the Laguna Provincial Jail to screen PDLs for possible TB infection, to ensure prevention and control the spread of the disease.

As of now they have a total of 12 PDLs who will undergo treatment for tuberculosis (TB).

Moreover, LPCC frontliners conduct swabbing and rapid testing in different cities and municipalities in Laguna, truly dedicated to their work in supporting Governor Ramil L. Hernandez in helping his people in the fight against infection from SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.
