7th Maria Carpena Kundiman Song Festival

     The Provincial Government of Laguna (PGL) under the leadership of Governor Ramil L. Hernandez and through the Laguna Tourism Culture Arts and Trade Office (LTCATO), organized the 7th Maria Carpena Kundiman Song Festival, a kundiman song competition On October 27, 2016 at the Cultural Center of Laguna.

     The competition had two categories, the high school and the senior citizen. It was highlighted with the special song number “Curacha de Paoay” rendered by the Philippine High School for the Arts based at the Cultural Center for the Arts in Los Baños.

     The festival coincides with the celebration of the 130th Birth Anniversary of Maria Evangelista Carpena, called the Nightingale of Zarzuela during her time, also the first Filipino recording artist.
     It was also conducted to raise public awareness on our colorful history and rich cultural heritage which made us what we are today, a unique breed of artistic and talented Lagunenses.
