LU joins Region 1V midwifery general assembly

     Together with their Program Chair, Prof. Edna F. Valenzuela, students from Laguna University (LU), participated in the Region 1V Calabarzon and Mimaropa General Assembly of Midwifery students held at the Emilio Aguinaldo College ( EAC ) Multipurpose Hall,  City of Dasmarinas, Cavite, on February 8, 2017.
 
     The Dean of the School of Midwifery of EAC, Magdalena L. Licmoan, RM, BSND, MAT, welcomed and introduced the 150 participants to the general assembly. She emphasized the significance of the theme “Sustainable Development Goals ( SDG ): Midwifery Care and Services for Mother and Child“ to the midwifery schools in the region. Likewise, she mentioned the importance of SDG to midwifery students.
 
     Dr. Georgina B. Palmario, EAC Vice President for Academic Affairs, delivered a message that inspired the participants to hold on to their calling inspite of the problems and difficulties that they may encounter. Dr. Palmario further expressed her gratitude to the school heads, deans and teachers of the midwifery schools in Region 1V, for their effort and desire to keep abreast with the new technology and modern methods in the midwifery profession.
                  
     The “Role of Midwives in the attainment of SDG” was comprehensively discussed by Arsenia M. Garrido, RN, RM, MAN, Chief Nurse of General Emilio Aguinaldo Memorial Hospital (GEAMH).  Immediately after her talk, moderator Miss Anna Sincerra D. Quinio, RM, RN, MAN, facilitated the open forum. Questions relevant to the topics discussed were raised. An active participation from the audience was noted.
                    
     Dr. Emmanuel Z. Pagala, OB-GYNE, dwelled on the topic, “Safe Motherhood: Pregnancy Risk Assessment.”—an interesting topic for the future midwives as manifested by their eagerness to raise questions after his talk. Moderator of the question and answer portion was Ms. Bernadette Sapinoso of Cavite State University.
 
   Two important topics were discussed during the afternoon session; Clarification on the Implementation of BS Midwifery curriculum and Professional Ethics in the Practice of Midwifery by Maria Theresa C. Padilla, RN, RM, MA Ed, MAN, the president of the Association of Philippine Schools of Midwifery (APSOM).
 

      Over-all chair Dr. Rebecca Miranda expressed her sincere gratitude on behalf of the EAC for the very well attended general assembly in her closing remarks and looks forward to another assembly of this sort.
