Programs & Projects

NEWBORN SCREENING PROGRAM

OBJECTIVES :

  • To ensure that every newborn has access to newborn screening for the certain heritable conditions that can result in mental retardation, serious health complications or death if left undetected and untreated.

  • To establish and integrate a sustainable newborn screening system within the public health delivery system.

  • To ensure that all health practitioners are aware of the advantages of NB and of their respective responsibilities in offering newborns the opportunity to undergo NB; and

  • To ensure that parents recognize their responsibilities in promoting their child’s right to health and full development within the context of responsible parenthood by protecting their child from preventable causes of disability and death through newborn screening.

BREASTFEEDING PROGRAM

Realizing optimal maternal and child health nutrition is the ultimate concern of the Promotion of Breastfeeding Program. This hospital strives to maintain facilities which fully protect, promote and support breastfeeding and rooming-in practices. We provide antenatal assistance and breastfeeding counseling to pregnant and lactating mothers as well as to the breastfeeding support groups in the community; there is also continuous orientation and re-orientation/updates to newly hired and old personnel, respectively, in support of the Mother and Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative.

HOSPITAL WASTE MANAGEMENT PROGRAM

This institution adheres to the effective waste management strategies which are essential to ensure all types of waste are disposed of properly, and to minimize the risk of harmful waste from contaminating the environment.

INFECTION CONTROL PROGRAM

The goal of Nagcarlan District Hospital is to establish a comprehensive Infection Prevention and Control Program to ensure that the organization has a functioning coordinated process in place to reduce the risks of nosocomial infections in patients and health care workers and to optimize use of resources through a strong preventive program. The hospital ensures that proper handwashing and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) are well-promoted and practiced by all health care workers.

FREE BLOOD SUGAR SCREENING

The aim of the diabetic clinic is to make sure that all patients with diabetes mellitus have appropriate and adequate treatment. The complications of diabetes mellitus are all related to poor diabetic control. Therefore if patients with diabetes mellitus can be assisted to keep good control of their blood glucose levels, they will get fewer complications in later life. As complications include coma, amputation of toes or legs, leg ulcers, infections and blindness, it is essential that every effort is made to try to ensure good diabetic control. Diabetic Clinic is conducted at NDH every third Friday of the month.
